The Most Significant Change methodology is a unique tool developed by researchers Rick Davies and Jess Dart that attempts to capture the difficult-to-measure impact of programs on individuals and communities. Unlike conventional methods, which do not always capture the “whole story,” Most Significant Change focuses on individual narratives that lend a human touch. The teachings of these stories cannot be measured in numbers or graphs. Through the powerful words of women and men, the stories reveal the meaningful changes within a community from a particular program.
Grounds for Health field staff collects the Most Significant Change stories through interviews with community health promoters, co-op coordinators, Ministry of Health personnel, and medical providers who participate in the program. After a community-driven vetting process, the stories demonstrate how programs have affected the people most directly involved.
Grounds for Health uses these stories to identify strengths, weaknesses, and unexpected outcomes. They help ensure our current and future programs engage the community, can be locally sustained and remain committed to providing effective and affordable care to women at the end of the road.
