Unite for Sight – Global Health & Innovation Conference

Unite for Sight

Apparently April is the month of conferences. Not only did we attend SCAA, but we also sent Martha Caswell, our Latin America Program Manager, to the Unite for Sight Global Health and Innovation Conference in New Haven, CT. This conference showcased some brilliant minds at the forefront of global health, social entrepreneurship, and international development.

Besides hearing Seth Godin give the keynote speech on using stories to change the world, Martha learned more about a peer organization’s work in El Salvador (www.basichealth.org), heard ideas for alternative screening technologies (www.preciva.com), and was stopped numerous times by people who looked at her name tag and said, “Grounds for Health? I’ve heard of you. You’re doing great things.”

Our name is getting out there and people in the global health arena want to get involved. Martha got the sense that we are turning a corner at Ground for Health. It is a feeling that was echoed at the SCAA conference. There’s momentum behind what we are doing—leaders in global health and beyond recognize the daunting shadow of cervical cancer, and the simplicity and power of the Single Visit approach.

Attending events like the Global Health and Innovation Conference give us a great opportunity to reach new supporters in the health arena, and create synergy between non-health-focused organizations. This is not easy work. But it’s refreshing to see there are countless others out there making a difference every day. They have a lot to share, and so do we.
