DIRTY CARS AND DOGS FOR WOMEN’S HEALTH
Annual Car Wash Benefits Local Non-Profit Grounds for Health

Waterbury, VT, September 2, 2010 – On September 16, 2010 Green Mountain Coffee will hold its fourth-annual Grounds for Health Car Wash with an added twist: not only will you drive away with a clean car, but also with a clean dog. There will be a dog wash at this year’s event, being held at 152 S. Main Street in Waterbury (across from Subway), between 11am and 3pm. A rain date is set for September 17 at the same time and location.

This family-friendly fundraiser benefits Waterbury-based Grounds for Health, an international non-profit that helps establish sustainable cervical cancer prevention and treatment programs in coffee-growing communities. Dog-owners, drivers, and passersby will enjoy local music, raffles and creemees.

Grounds for Health has been bringing women’s healthcare to remote coffee communities since 1996, and the annual car wash provides a great backdrop to raise awareness about cervical cancer, and raise money for the organization.

“While the car wash is free, everyone is invited to make a donation to Grounds for Health,” says August Burns, Executive Director of Grounds for Health. “These funds support our mission to create sustainable and effective cancer prevention programs in coffee communities.”

Grounds for Health and event sponsors Green Mountain Coffee, Gigi’s Cleaning, Muddy Paw and Barry T. Chouinard hope to build on the success of previous car washes, which have raised as much as $10,000.

“The car wash has always been a success because of the support from individuals and businesses in the community,” Burns adds. “We love telling our neighbors about the work we do far away from Waterbury.”

Through its work in rural areas of Nicaragua, Mexico, and Tanzania, Grounds for Health has perfected a sustainable model that could bring life-saving care to thousands of more women across the globe.
