Ultimate Barista Challenge Supports GFH

Grounds for Health was delighted to get word from Sherri Johns of the Ultimate Barista Challenge (UBC) that we would be the recipient of proceeds from this year’s UBC at the International Restaurant & Food Service Show at Javits Convention Center in NYC, from February 27 – March 1. www.ultimatebaristachallenge.com

The Ultimate Barista Challenge is featured at four major international food service and restaurant shows in the USA. The UBC is also in China and Korea with new countries coming on board this year! The 40 – 50 certified judges who come from the food industry, chefs, media, coffee, education and culinary experts, sommeliers and mixologists are excited to participate and garner new insights into coffee, espresso and baristi through the process.

Sherri reports that they may see up to 50,000 attendees at the 2011 USA shows. In late February, the UBC held a primer event at the Coffee & Tea Festival of New York where over 3000 people flowed through the stage and, at any one time, a challenge or demonstration on brewing espresso or preparing latte art drew 150 – 175 people. A barista from Cafe Grumpy won the Qualifying round of Latte Art Challenge. The UBC will also be featured at the National Coffee Association Centennial Conference in New Orleans in March.

The Ultimate Barista Challenge is proud to support Grounds for Health and spread the word of their good work. Grounds For Health makes a positive difference and huge impact in a simple, straightforward practice brought to rural coffee growing communities. Cervical cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among women in these countries. Grounds for Health screens, treats and educates local communities so that everyone benefits and ultimately lives are saved.

Thanks again to the Ultimate Barista Challenge!
