ECOM Foundation Awards Grant to Strengthen Programs

Grounds for Health is the grateful recipient of a two-year $45,000 grant award for the Development of Origin Resources from the ECOM Foundation.

Since 2006, the ECOM Foundation has made a significant contribution to Grounds for Health’s programs through engaging ECOM staff in collaborative activities in Mexico, Tanzania, Nicaragua and Peru, and by providing financial support for overall program implementation.

Year one funding of the two-year grant will support ongoing collaborations with ECOM affiliates and other partners in Nicaragua and Peru. Specifically, the local ECOM affiliates and coffee co-ops will provide vital logistical support, community outreach and education, as well as transportation for patients and overall program support in these two program countries. As a coffee partner organization, ECOM is asked in part to help identify and recruit trusted community members to serve as Community Health Promoters. Community Health Promoters receive training and tools from Grounds for Health to increase awareness of cervical cancer in their communities, recruit women for screening, and coordinate follow-up for women needing additional care.
